Overview
Overview
Anthony Oceguera advises on labor and employment law matters, focusing on employment litigation. He is particularly skilled in resolving single plaintiff cases and class and collective actions in federal and state courts. Among his clients are a diverse range of employers, ranging from small family businesses to large multinational corporations. He also represents business in private arbitrations and administrative claims before an array of public agencies, such as the California Labor Commissioner’s Office.
Anthony brings significant experience to defending employers against discrimination charges before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and California Civil Rights Department. He also advises on unfair labor practice charges, has participated in union elections, and has handled serious Labor Code petitions related to workers’ compensation and workplace safety. A large portion of his practice involves complex wage and hour class action defense and representative actions under the Private Attorneys General Act, which pose significant risks for employers.
Notably, Anthony is fluent in defending cases related to unlawful background check policies under the Fair Credit Reporting Act and similar state laws. Many employers are unaware of the detailed legal requirements involved, and Anthony works closely with such clients and Consumer Reporting Agencies to ensure compliance. He is dedicated to crafting tailored strategies to achieve the best outcomes, whether through early dismissal, judgment, or confidential settlement.
Beyond litigation, Anthony advises employers on personnel matters and helps update policies to comply with evolving California and federal laws. His early career experience as a plaintiff attorney provides valuable insight into opposing strategies, enhancing his defense approach for those he serves today. Prior to joining O’Hagan Meyer, he was a partner at an AmLaw 100 firm and practiced at a boutique specializing in agricultural employment law.
